Everyone who wants to lose weight would like to do so quickly, but some of the tactics that they try aren’t really helping the situation. If you cut your caloric intake down to almost nothing you will certainly lose weight, but not all of it is going to be fat. When your body is low on energy to keep you moving and in good health, it has to go back and use both fat and protein from your own systems to adjust to the shortfall. This can result in losing some of your muscle mass and ultimately mean that your metabolism will be slower and you will have to eat less than ever to get the same results.
If you want to make sure that you can lose weight without losing muscle mass, you need to make sure that your fast weight loss diet includes plenty of protein. If you are eating enough protein to supply your body’s needs, it is much less inclined to break down muscle tissue in order to get protein that it can use. That means that you will be on a diet that won’t leave you with a metabolism that runs much more slowly than it once did.
